What is Basbousa ?

Basbousa is considered one of the favorite desserts to many of people, as it has a delicious and special taste and its working methods are varied according to each country and region, such as basbousa with cream, or basbousa with yogurt, and cocoa is sometimes added to it to prepare basbousa with chocolate.

Ingredients:

Two cups of semolina flour.
Two cups of yogurt.
A cup of sugar.
A quarter cup of corn oil.
Three tablespoons of grated coconut.
A teaspoon of baking powder.
A quarter of a teaspoon of salt.
To decorate peanuts or peeled almonds,cut into halves.

The Method:

We prepare a large plate and put the semolina flour, grated coconut, plus sugar and baking powder and then sprinkle it with a small amount of salt in a pot and mix the ingredients well.
Gradually add to the mixture a quarter of a cup of oil,2 cups of yogurt, and knead well with hands until they become soft dough.
Chop the basbousa after spreading it in the tray as wish, and on each piece we add a grain or two of regular pistachios or almonds.

Put on the tray a little oil, then put the mixture in it and spread it out so that it is no more than 2 cm thick and work to balance its surface by hand until it becomes equal.

Put it to rest about fifteen minutes before baking it in the oven.
After fifteen minutes have passed,put the tray in an oven on a medium temperature.Let it thirty minutes,when we brown it from the bottom and make sure every period of its maturity,then we brown the face from above,then pour the sugar sauce directly it.

Sugar Sauce Ingredients:

one and half cup of water.
Two cups of sugar.
A teaspoon of lemon juice.
A teaspoon of rose water.

Sugar Sauce Method:  

In a saucepan over the heat, pour the sugar and water and stir until sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to boil.
When the mixture boils, add lemon juice.
Allow the mixture to simmer over low heat until high.
Add rose water or any other flavors.
