The Alexandrian Hawawshi

The Alexandrian Hawawshi is a very popular Egyptian food, many of which are made up of dough and minced meat and some of them use bread instead of dough, called Hawawshi and are characterized by the fact that they collect all kinds of spices from pepper, salt, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg that make them rich in spicy and  wonderful taste,This dish is prepared from a loaf of bread or home made dough and stuffed with minced meat, onions, hot pepper, tomatoes and spices. 

Ingredients for Dough:

Half a kilo of flour.
Half a cup of oil.
Half a tablespoon of sugar.
Half a tablespoon of salt.
Knead the water.

Filling components:

A quarter of a kilo of minced meat.
3 medium onions, finely chopped.
2 green chopped peppers.
1 medium hot chili pepper.
Half a bunch of chopped parsley.
Salt and black pepper.
Cinnamon and ginger.
Nutmeg.

Method of Hawawshi:

1- Put the flour, sugar and salt in the blender and mix them together.

2-Add the oil and knead it well.

3- We gradually add water and continue kneading until a cohesive dough is formed.

4 - Divide the dough into medium balls, put it in a tray and let it rest for 30 minutes

5- Prepare the mixture by mixing all ingredients and spices together.

6- Spread the dough on a flat surface and soften it with a certain thickness as you like.

7 - We put a layer of meat on the dough and spread it,then put another layer of dough on top of the meat and close it well from the edges, then put it in an oven at 180 degrees until browned and cooked.
Then serve the Hawawshi with pickles and mayonnaise.
